Meanwhile, I am going through the projects I have found. I'm looking them over and deciding whether or not I will actually finish them.
The prayer shawl is one that I will finish. The mitered baby afghan is another project that I will finish, as soon as I decide how I want to do the borders. That red baby coat, however, is a problem.

My purpose in using the cheapo yarn was to test the pattern for any potential errors in the pattern or quirks in the garment, and that purpose has been served. I learned a lot from this one. Most importantly, I learned just how bad that cheap acrylic yarn from the dollar store really is. I wouldn't donate this stuff to charity, it's that awful. I mean, Red Heart is a quality product, this stuff isn't. So...
DON'T BUY THE DOLLAR STORE YARN!
It's only good for practicing, not for knitting anything you want to actually use. It seems ok at first, but by the time you finish the object you will regret it.

Oh, what a shame you have to scrap the coat! It looks wonderful though... you've got me googling for that pattern book now :)
I have been searching unsuccesfully for that pattern book. I want to make a two toned tank dress with a ruffle that is in it. If you or anyone has an extra copy, please let me know!
ilanaeid AT yahoo.com. Thanks!
I have been unable to locate a copy of Bouton d'Or layette & junior book #13. It is 4 or 5 years old and is out of print. I have checked Ebay and a number of merchants who sell older or used books of this type without success.
The new Bouton d'Or layette book #16 does have a few dresses in it. Model #39, on the back cover, is similar in shape to the dress you were interested in (#42 Marlande from book #13). You could get a close approximation if you follow the pattern, working in a solid color with contrast neck and armhole edges instead of the fairisle design, outline embroider some flowers on the bodice, then add a double ruffle to the hem.
